“板上釘釘”用英語(yǔ)怎么說(shuō)?
在日常會(huì)話中恰到好處地使用習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)能讓你的語(yǔ)言別有風(fēng)味。我們今天要學(xué)的習(xí)慣用語(yǔ)都包括“nail”這個(gè)詞。它作名詞時(shí)的意思是“釘子”，作動(dòng)詞時(shí)意為“用釘子釘”。
1. nail down
從字面上看，naildown意思是“釘下去”或者“釘牢”。如果把什么東西往下釘在地板上的話，那它的位置就固定不變，成了定局，可以引申為“敲定”，例如：
I nailed down a contract to sell a thousand cars. The customer signed allthe papers and I’ve already faxed them back to you.
我敲定了一個(gè)出售一千輛汽車的合約。那位顧客簽了所有的文件，我已經(jīng)把文件用傳真發(fā)回給你了。
2. as hard as nails
As hard asnails字面意思是“像釘子一樣硬”。如果一個(gè)人像釘子一樣硬的話，那人想必既頑固強(qiáng)硬又無(wú)情無(wú)義，是個(gè)相當(dāng)難相處的人。例如：
They offered me a good job at that company but I hear that the boss is ashard as nails: one little mistake and you’re out on the street the next daylooking for a new job。
他們向我提供那家公司的一個(gè)很好的職位，但是我聽(tīng)說(shuō)他們的老板是個(gè)很難相處的人：只要你犯一個(gè)小錯(cuò)，他馬上把你一腳踢出公司大門，讓你另謀生路。
3. another nail in your coffin
棺材在死者入殮后才用釘子釘上，所以棺材釘子是送人去地下長(zhǎng)眠的'。例如：
You really ought to stop smoking. Every cigarette you light up is anothernail in your coffin.
你一定得戒煙，你每點(diǎn)上一枝香煙，就等于往墳?zāi)箍缃艘徊健?/p>
這里的another nail in yourcoffin相當(dāng)于中文的“催命符”，意思是有害健康、危及生命的東西。實(shí)際上人們給香煙起的綽號(hào)就是coffin nail。
4. hit the nail on the head
木工敲釘子得正敲在它扁平的頂上，才能釘?shù)们〉胶锰�。所以hit the nail on thehead用來(lái)表示“說(shuō)話行事恰到好處、正中要害或者十分中肯”。例如：
Your analysis really hit the nail on the head.
你的分析確實(shí)一針見(jiàn)血。
