10年前，聯(lián)合國(guó)教科文組織把4月23日確定為“世界圖書(shū)與版權(quán)日(又稱(chēng)“世界讀書(shū)日”)。2005年4月23日是第10個(gè)“世界讀書(shū)日”。自1995年世界讀書(shū)日宣布以來(lái)，每年的這一天世界上100多個(gè)國(guó)家和地區(qū)在政府的支持下，出版機(jī)構(gòu)、學(xué)校、圖書(shū)館、社區(qū)等各界人士都要開(kāi)展豐富多彩的閱讀日慶典活動(dòng)，把讀書(shū)日的宣傳活動(dòng)變成一場(chǎng)熱熱鬧鬧的歡樂(lè)節(jié)日。
但是，在中國(guó)，這個(gè)世界性的讀書(shū)節(jié)還未被社會(huì)公眾所知曉，更談不上是節(jié)日。據(jù)搜狐讀書(shū)網(wǎng)站2004年調(diào)查顯示：知道“世界讀書(shū)日”的人僅占6%，27%的人雖聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)但不知詳情，67%的人從未聽(tīng)說(shuō)過(guò)這個(gè)日子。
